Artist Residences

We see artist development as central to our mission to tell a wide range of stories and to support and nurture a creative community.

    What are the Residencies?

We are offering south west-based artists and companies space within our buildings to develop their ideas and thoughts around a specific project, or to explore their artistic process more generally.

All artists on the residences benefit from one or two weeks of free rehearsal space, plus bespoke mentoring and support from our programming and producing team. Projects were selected through an open application process. Applications for the next round of residencies will open later in 2018.

The residencies are about exploration and the incubation of ideas or the development of practice, rather than rehearsing a show that has already been significantly developed. The artists are not under pressure to present something at the end of their residency unless doing so will support their idea/project.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Joseff Harris, James Kent, Lucy Bishop, Luke Brown, Rosa Eaton, Raquel Meseguer, Tom Marshman, Theatre Ad Infinitum and Sharon Clark.

The art forms range from dance and devised theatre, to performance art and digital installation. Their stories explore unsung heroes, current political and social economic themes, marginalised communities and a curiosity for local ‘unseen’ spaces.

You can find out more about the current residences in our News Update.
