    About

Following his stunning performance as Iago in our spring co-production with Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory of Othello, Mark Lockyer returns to Tobacco Factory Theatres this autumn with his touching and utterly bonkers one-man show.

    Meet Mark.
The thing is I’ve got myself into a bit of a mess
    Mark’s an actor.
I keep forgetting my lines. I’ve left my girlfriend
    and I’m beginning to stink.
    Mark was an actor.
And to make matters worse I’ve met the Devil.

Living with the Lights On is Mark’s critically acclaimed, gripping true story of a life lived at the edge. Terrifying, and often terrifyingly hilarious, Mark’s personal memoir of mental illness begins with his breakdown onstage at the Royal Shakespeare Company. As moving as it is funny, as absurd as it is true, Mark’s journey is testament to the fact that mental illness can happen to anyone and that, with the right treatment, there can be a life beyond it.

Mark Lockyer trained at RADA and for the last 30 years he’s played at the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Old Vic, Young Vic and the Royal Court, working with Ken Campbell, Mark Rylance and Sam Mendes. Living with the Lights On is in Bristol this autumn as part of a UK and European tour, following two sell-out tours in 2016 and an extended sell-out run at the Young Vic.

Living with the Lights On is from Actors Touring Company, producers of acclaimed productions including The Events and The Suppliant Women.
