Zero for the Young Dudes! by Alistair McDowall
The inmates at a bizarre summer camp are plotting a revolution. Or has it already happened?
Spending a day watching their schedule of exercise, lessons and meals, a long history of unrest and injustice lies hidden, and as the day wears on, a violent future looms large on the horizon.
Directed by Ed Madden (Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons) with Movement Director Lizzy Wiggs, and performed by our Young Theatre Maker 14:19 company, as part of our main theatre programme.
Zero for the Young Dudes! was first commissioned and produced by National Theatre Connections in 2017.
Our Young Theatre Makers companies have been going from strength to strength, offering young people between the ages of 8 and 19 the opportunity to create bold new theatre pieces within the supportive environment of a youth theatre group. We are delighted to include the work of the oldest group – our 14-19 year olds – in our main theatre programme this season. Our 11-13’s Young Theatre Makers group has also been working hard and will be presenting their own performance at the end of their term.
We are also extremely proud that our Young Theatre Makers have been selected alongside only four other UK-based youth theatre companies to take part in the Festival of European Youth Theatre in Birmingham next year. Come along to watch these young stars now and say you saw them here first!
