    About

Written and performed by Chris Thorpe
Developed with and directed by Rachel Chavkin

We’re excited to present a Fringe First-winning solo show from the legendary Chris Thorpe and the multi award-winning team that created Confirmation.

    We all have a nationality.

    Or almost all of us.

This is a show about someone who doesn’t want his any more.

Status takes as its starting point the UK Prime Minister’s assertion that if you believe you are a citizen of the world, you are a citizen of nowhere. Drawing on globe-spanning conversations about national identity, and incorporating songs as well as stories, Status is about running away from the national story you’re given and whether that impulse of attempted escape – for those privileged enough to consider it – is a useful one, or a rejection of responsibility open only to the few.

"With its magical-realist twists, the show has the strange pull of a Haruki Murakami novel, a dense and provocative barrage of reflections on a world in flux and our place within it"
